[video] vocal teacher broken by stunning Jacob Collier performance
By - L_R_G_
To be so lucky to get to listen to Jacob Collier for the first time again... I discovered him years ago when he was just beginning to make content on youtube and I still go back to him every couple weeks because of his addicting voice.
What a talent. What a total and complete talent. Really wish he had the notoriety he so very well deserves in the mainstream, but at the same time I really do hope he remains a gem to be discovered by so many more millions of people.
It was my lucky day at hearing him for the first time. If you have any suggestions as to where to go next from this incredibly talented musical genius, please send the song my way.
Gladly! Here's his covers/reimaginings of [Blackbird](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zt9WUV30VE8) and [Don't Stop Til You Get Enough](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KC3GrzoQG9U), here's a [couple](https://open.spotify.com/track/1b4qWC27ur4oCRA0Xj9EAH?si=63322eaeddbe46bc) [favorite](https://open.spotify.com/track/0ZVPABdzJEa0nG85uAlBjB?si=5889c9fc13504c2d) [tracks](https://open.spotify.com/track/7ckWkC7fLIxvcktBw1WfHN?si=867e5f76d3d14578) [off](https://open.spotify.com/track/0xuz9pSNwyWljXUgEGEhjp?si=1ba3b171c2d04db6) [his](https://open.spotify.com/track/7FNYjfgNPRSWZaWDXKB459?si=0664626c3d1b43cc) full length albums.
Best part about Collier is that if there's a track or two that you don't vibe with, you're almost guaranteed to find something if you keep digging. Hope you enjoy!
I have a feeling its going to be hard to find a track I don't vibe with, with this guy! Thanks for the songs I've got a day off tomorrow so will be enjoying a lot of his stuff.
He's so versatile too that even if you don't vibe with all of it, you'll almost certainly vibe with some.
He has been working on the "Djesse Project" which are his albums Djesse 1,2 and 3 and supposedly a fourth one coming. Each are his interpretations on different styles of music and definitely worth listening to in order.
He’s got this crazy cover of All Night Long which won a Grammy that’s worth checking out. It’s also nice just finding videos of him talking about music, he’s done a lot of talks and lectures and so on
That’s really the main reason I love Jacob Collier - him talking about music. For whatever reason his music doesn’t really grab me but I absolutely love marveling at his incredible understanding of it.
I relate to this! I do find a lot of his music to be overwhelming in terms of complexity. For me I’m generally more drawn to music which has a sense of naivety to it. I do love this Coldplay cover though (and I also don’t like Coldplay very much!)
I just got done with the second playback of In the Real Early Morning, also incredible. Thanks for the suggestion, its on now, I may run out of tissues tonight I feel.
And just like that I've got tickets to see him next June!
Yes I agree. It’s beautiful to watch how touched they are

So I just recognised that second hand frisson is a thing. Not only did I get it from Collier, I got an extra layer of frisson from the response this guy had. I love it!
Yes exactly right!!? It’s just so wonderful!! I’m more touched by his response than the performance, though of course the performance is amazing too
This works exactly like getting sad or choked up when watching someone else cry. Or even feeling nauseated / having to yawn when someone else does. It relies on empathy.
Fun fact: sociopaths are incapable of experiencing this.
Maybe it’s just me but I don’t like this version of fix you. Jacob is a great singer but he puts emphasis on the wrong words for me. Idk
That was good, thanks
